Tempered Glass Screen Protectors
« on: November 16, 2014, 08:34:47 PM »
Hi everybody! It's come time to buy a new screen protector. I'm looking at tempered glass, but the market is extremely confusing. I knew about iLoome(sp?), but while looking on Amazon.com, I found quite a number of them, including some made by Skinomi, Zagg, and many others. I saw some that were 0.3mm and some that were 0.4mm. I have no idea if any brand is better in the tempered glass department, or if the 0.3-0.4mm measurements matter, and if so, which is better. Also, I don't know what prices are reasonable. Can anyone help? Thanks!

Funny you mention that Ruthie.  I just got a tempered glass screen protector from iCarez last week for my G3.  It's AWESOME.  It's the best screen protector I've ever had.  Why?  Because first off it goes on and leaves virtually no bubbles at all and once on it's basically invisible.  You can't even tell it's there because it's so crystal clear and it's hard glass just like the screen so unless you really look for the edges you can't even tell it's on.  I used to use the flexible screen protectors...both wet and 'sticky' dry.  I'll never go back to either again.  This is the one I got on amazon for the G3:  http://www.amazon.com/Anti-Scratch-Bubble-free-Fingerprint-Protector-Replacement/dp/B00L619698/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1416192285&sr=8-1&keywords=icares screen protector g3

and here's one for the G2 that I've heard good things about.  It's the ZeroLemon Ultra Glass Armor 9H Premium Tempered Glass Screen Protector for only $9.99 (9H is harder glass than 8H so a bit better by the way):  http://www.amazon.com/Lifetime-Warranty-ZeroLemon┬«-Ultra-Glass/dp/B00P4QN46M/ref=sr_1_7?s=wireless&ie=UTF8&qid=1416193080&sr=1-7&keywords=zerolemon g2

Here's a good video showing the ZeroLemon being put on an HTC phone...shows how easy it is and how you don't get bubbles with glass protectors like you do with plastic ones.

Do you know anything about the thickness regarding if .2mm, .3mm, .4mm, etc. is better? I know about the H rating, that 9H is better than 8H (hardness), but don't know anything about the thickness.

Well the the thickness is a tradeoff between protection and sensitivity.  Now I got the .2mm...which is one of the thinner ones and I've found no difference in sensitivity really.  Most people find that it doesn't affect the sensitivity but I would think that if you got one of the thicker ones perhaps it might...but it's really a case by case basis.  On the other hand the thicker ones probably provide a bit more protection.  This one by iLoome gets pretty good reviews here: http://www.amazon.com/iloome-ScreenMate-Flexible-Protector-Oleophobic/dp/B00F4AT5Q6/ref=sr_1_4?s=wireless&ie=UTF8&qid=1416193818&sr=1-4&keywords=g2+glass+screen+protector

It's a 'flexible glass' so it's very thin (only .12mm) so touch sensitivity shouldn't be an issue.  If you'd rather have something a bit harder then the one I listed above should do the trick or look around for some others that are relatively thin but have either 8H or 9H hardness.

Just found this one also which looks like a good one.  It's 9H hardness, only .3mm thickness...and it's hard glass not flexible so provides harder protection.  Less than $9 too which is pretty cheap for those specs:  http://www.amazon.com/Tempered-Protectors-Hardness-Rounded-thickness/dp/B00J2LCT7A/ref=sr_1_3?s=wireless&ie=UTF8&qid=1416193818&sr=1-3&keywords=g2+glass+screen+protector

I'm looking at this one:
http://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B00OGIT2QK/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A2UOOZIYUA8PB0

It has really good reviews and guarantees zero bubbles...which is important to me. I'm not always the best at putting these things on, and neither are the people around me, lol.

Looks good!  9H hardness and .33mm so should be pretty sensitive.  Good luck and let me know how it works out when you get it!
