phone works ok to make calls etc but contacts dont transfer to my astra phone book. list of incoming and outgoing calls is there but not contacts

Assuming that your astra phone book means your bluetooth stereo deck in your car, I would first try, if you haven't already, unpairing the phone from the deck, and deleting the pairing (device) from BOTH the phone and the stereo deck.  Then try to re-pair (not repair) your G2 with your car deck.

After they are paired, go to your bluetooth settings on your G2 and press the gear icon.  What profiles does it show?  e.g. Phone Audio?  What else?  How old or new is your car?
